What is Webflow?
Webflow is a CMS (Content Management System), a tool that lets you create and edit websites. The best-known CMS on the market is probably WordPress: today, around 40% of websites run on WordPress. But other CMS options exist: Drupal, Magento, Shopify are each CMS with their own specifics.
What makes Webflow specific is that it's a no-code CMS. Concretely, a CMS that lets you create your website without writing a single line of code. Webflow is based on a drag-and-drop principle: if you want to add an element to your page, select it from the dedicated menu and drag it directly onto the page. Just like that, it's added to your site.
Be aware though: Webflow offers many features, some of them quite advanced. A no-code CMS doesn't mean anyone can pick it up. Webflow has a real learning curve: it flows smoothly for those who master it, but can be discouraging for beginners.
How good is Webflow as a CMS?
Rather than just give you our opinion, let's detail what the app has to offer its users.
Webflow CMS overview
Webflow's content editor is organized into 4 main areas: three columns and a top bar.

This is what the Webflow site editor looks like.
Area (1): the left panel. It's used to select elements you want to add to your page. You drag them directly onto column 2 to add them to your web page. Photos, H-tags, call-to-actions, sections, columns, lists... Webflow offers many pre-built elements you can add in a click. Bonus: Webflow lets you create and save your own elements, such as CTAs you can reuse across all your pages.
If you want to add e-commerce elements to your Webflow site, you'll find them here too.
The top bar (2) has three main functions. The first is to quickly select the page you're working on. You can switch between all the pages of your site and apply specific changes.
The second function lets you check that your site is responsive — that it adapts naturally to all screen sizes: desktop, tablet, phone. In one click, you can verify how your site displays on each device and make sure nothing overlaps or is misaligned.
Finally, the third option in this bar is to publish the changes you've made to your page (if your site is hosted on Webflow) or export the page's source code (if you host your site elsewhere).
The central column (3) of the Webflow editor is your web page. You can add elements from column (1) by dragging them in, then customize them in the right column (4). Webflow's CMS gives you a live visual of how your site renders — very handy for working on design and usability.
Finally, the right column (4), as mentioned, is used to modify specific elements. When you add an element to your page from column (1), it isn't yet formatted. Click it in column (3) and the right column (4) opens. You can then edit the selected element: size, color, shape, position, and more. Every element is fully customizable.
Webflow's other features
Beyond its editor, Webflow offers many other features that make it especially convenient when you want to build a site without coding. Among them:
- The ability to host your site directly with Webflow. When you make changes to your pages, you can publish them without having to export the source code.
- The option to share your projects so several people can access them.
- A dashboard that groups all your projects so you can work on several sites at once.
- Very complete resources to understand how Webflow works and learn to build sites on your own. The documentation is rich, and Webflow even offers a "University" section to train on its tool. These resources are currently available in English only.
- Templates are available, so you don't start from zero. Pre-built sites can be reused — you keep the structure or pick specific elements. You'll find Webflow templates for blogs, showcase sites or ready-made e-commerce sites to get going faster.
- The option to follow designers specialized in Webflow sites to draw inspiration from their work or reach out when needed.
- A very active community and a help forum to answer any question you might have.
What makes Webflow valuable is both the tool — practical and powerful — and the community around the app. Creation, inspiration and mutual help sit at the heart of the CMS philosophy.
Can you use Webflow to build an e-commerce site?
A question that often comes up concerns online stores. With Shopify and Magento growing fast, how does Webflow fare for e-commerce sites?
Webflow increasingly offers new tools to help you open an online store. They've notably developed a dedicated product, Webflow Ecommerce, letting you install payment methods like Stripe or Google Pay directly on your site. You can easily create product pages and checkout pages (cart, payment, thank-you, etc.). Webflow is therefore fully suited to e-commerce development. You'll find the dedicated pricing below.
More generally, Webflow can be used to build any type of site: showcase sites, e-commerce sites, blogs, or even fairly complex sites that rely on web applications.
The best Webflow templates
One of Webflow's flagship features, like many CMSs, is the ability to pick templates. If you build with Webflow, you'll have access to a wide range of pre-designed sites that save time or spark design ideas.
We've hand-picked our favorite themes in three categories: start-up, e-commerce and agency.
Athena, a Webflow theme perfect for start-ups
Check out the Athena theme!
With airy design and dynamic effects, Athena is a perfect template for start-ups. It offers 4 different homepages to help you sell your concept to visitors. You'll also find many inner pages and ready-made sections you can reuse across your site.

Our favorite e-commerce template on Webflow: Faraday
Faraday is a very classic but very well-crafted e-commerce template for Webflow. The homepage lets you highlight your star products, new arrivals, running promotions, and your brand's news.
The product pages are very well designed, with everything you'd expect: product photos, price, stock, detailed description below the fold.
The template is fully responsive and includes Global Swatch: in a few clicks you can change all the site's colors to match your brand. A perfect template to build an e-commerce site.

Template price: USD 79.
A Webflow template for agencies: Growth
Growth is a Webflow template for digital marketing agencies. It showcases your services, your team and your contact forms so leads can reach you. You'll be able to embed charts and polished case studies naturally, showing your impact with clients.

Webflow pricing: how much does the CMS cost?
How much is a Webflow subscription? We get this question often. It all depends on what you want to do with the tool. Webflow offers several plans and tiers.
There are three main plan types: Account, Site and E-commerce. The Account plan gives you access to Webflow's site editor — the tool that lets you create and modify pages in drag-and-drop. The Site plan lets you create and publish your site hosted by Webflow. You can get your own domain name purchased directly through Webflow. Finally, the E-commerce plan lets you create an e-commerce site with a built-in payment system, product feeds, connections to Instagram, Facebook and Google Shopping, and more.
Account plan: access the Webflow site editor
A free plan
Webflow offers a free starter plan. It's mostly a discovery tier: if you have time, you can try out the tool before moving to a paid plan.
The free plan lets you work on two different projects. You can even publish a site, hosted by Webflow on the free plan. However, it will only be a webflow.io subdomain, not a custom domain. And your free site can have up to 2 pages. You can't export the source code of pages created on the free plan.
A lite plan at USD 16/month
The first paid plan lets you create up to 10 projects at once and host them for free on webflow.io. With this plan your subdomain can hold up to 100 pages.
A Pro plan at USD 35/month
The top Account plan lets you build unlimited projects, export them at will, publish them on webflow.io subdomains (up to 100 pages each) and protect those subdomains with a password.
Site plan: host your site on Webflow
Plan at USD 12/month
The "Basic" plan lets you publish your site hosted by Webflow. Your site can include up to 100 pages and receive 25,000 monthly visits.
Plan at USD 16/month
The next tier up doesn't increase the page limit. However, you can receive up to 100,000 monthly visits. It also includes API connections and the ability to install an internal search for visitors.
Plan at USD 36/month
The top site plan is ideal for high-traffic sites. You can still host up to 100 pages, but now receive up to 1,000,000 monthly visitors. You also get better overall performance, in terms of bandwidth and API connectors.
E-commerce plan: grow your sales with Webflow
Finally, the E-commerce plans let you sell products directly on your Webflow site. Three tiers are offered.
Standard plan: USD 29/month
The Standard plan lets you list up to 500 products on your site. Webflow provides a custom checkout and a range of payment systems. Note: on each transaction, you'll pay 2% of the order amount in transaction fees. You can sell up to USD 50,000 of goods per year.
Plus plan: USD 74/month
The Plus plan lets you list up to 1,000 products in your catalog and removes transaction fees. You can sell up to USD 200,000 of products per year.
Advanced plan: USD 212/month
The Advanced plan targets larger e-commerce sellers. You can add up to 3,000 SKUs to your catalog. Without transaction fees, it has no sales cap either. A plan to consider only if your business is performing strongly.
Other purchases to budget for
If you build your site with Webflow, plan for a few extra costs (common to most CMSs):
- Domain name purchase from a provider. Domain price varies but starts at around 8 euros per year.
- Template purchase. At Scroll, we build many sites from scratch, without a ready-made template. But you can also buy one to save time.
Our take on Webflow
So what's our take on Webflow?
At Scroll, we've chosen Webflow among many CMSs for several reasons. The main one: the ability to customize sites and bring fresh ideas to our clients. Webflow offers huge possibilities thanks to its flexibility, which you don't always find on other tools. The tool is very powerful, and the very active community provides significant resources.
The other strength is usability. Creating a site on Webflow requires advanced knowledge. But thanks to its very simple content editor, we let our clients truly own their website: they can change content very simply at any time, without calling on an external developer.
You get the picture: our take on Webflow is that it's probably the best no-code CMS on the market. The little extra? Thanks to its flexibility and the absence of hard-coded development, Webflow lets us build cheaper sites for our clients.
Scroll, an agency specialized in Webflow and no-code tools
At Scroll, we're not only Webflow specialists. We master the main no-code tools on the market, such as Bubble or Airtable. We can create custom tools or web applications that match your needs. And we can even integrate them into your website if needed.
Examples of sites built with Webflow
To show you what we can do on Webflow, here are a few examples of sites we've built.

First, our agency's site. It was built entirely on Webflow. We didn't use any template: we started from scratch to showcase the full range of our know-how.

Manuel Ravier
We redesigned the website of one of our clients, Manuel Ravier, founder of Investissement-locatif.com. The goal: create a site with a cleaner, more airy and responsive design, and improve SEO and conversion rate. Mission accomplished.
